On August 26, 2024, Colors Sitges Link and the Fundació Sitges, organizer of the prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, signed a historic agreement to promote the visibility and awareness of the LGTBIQ+ community in the film industry. The agreement, signed by Fundació Sitges General Director Mònica Garcia Massagué and Colors Sitges Link President Prado García Velázquez, establishes a key collaboration for the 57th edition of the festival and other cultural initiatives in the city of Sitges.
The main objective of this agreement is the inclusion of the LGTBIQ+ community in the festival through a series of joint activities. These activities will aim to foster diversity, equality, and the visibility of LGTBIQ+ realities not only in the context of cinema but also in the parallel activities of the festival.
Among the areas of collaboration are:
- Awareness and education: Talks and educational materials with a queer perspective will be developed, aimed at all audiences, including children and families, through initiatives such as Kids en Acció.
- Active participation: Colors Sitges Link will play a prominent role in creating safe spaces at the festival, such as the Punt Lila i LGTBIQ+, promoting an inclusive and respectful environment.
- Queer Kong Award: The agreement ensures the continuity of this award, which recognizes the work of films that give visibility to the LGTBIQ+ community in fantastic cinema. Colors Sitges Link will be responsible for selecting the jury and coordinating this award.
This agreement demonstrates both entities’ commitment to promoting inclusion and respect for diversity in such a relevant cultural space as the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.
Next steps Over the coming months, both entities will work together to carry out these and other initiatives that will not only enrich the festival’s program but also strengthen the presence of the LGTBIQ+ community in one of the country’s most important cultural events.
