In the latest extraordinary assembly of the Federació Plataforma d’Entitats LGTBI de Catalunya, held on Monday, September 2, 2024, Montse Casaoliva, treasurer of Colors Sitges Link, was voted in as a member of the platform’s new board of directors. This incorporation strengthens our association’s commitment to collective work in defending LGTBI rights in Catalonia, marking another step in our active participation in key political spaces.
What is the Federació Plataforma d’Entitats LGTBI de Catalunya?
Founded in 2015, the Federació Plataforma d’Entitats LGTBI de Catalunya is a federation that brings together LGTBIQ+ associations in Catalonia that work together to defend the human rights enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 2006 Yogyakarta Principles, focused on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people. Today, it is composed of 18 entities, including Colors Sitges Link.
The Platform and FELGTBI+, where we are also present, are key bodies in interacting with political institutions. They play a crucial role in the process by working closely with politicians, proposing changes, and defending the interests of the community. In addition to mobilizing the LGTBIQ+ community, these federations participate in the negotiation and discussion of proposals that affect our rights.
The role of Colors Sitges Link in political activism
In recent years, Colors Sitges Link has been actively involved in highly influential networks. In 2022, our president, Prado García, served on the board of directors of FELGTBI+ as a spokesperson for feminisms, a key role in the fight for gender equality and inclusion within the LGTBIQ+ community during the drafting of the national LGTBI and Trans Law. Such participations reinforce our commitment to activism and political influence, ensuring that the community’s voice is heard in legislative and social spheres.
FELGTBI+ and the Platform play a crucial role in working with political institutions, seeking to influence decisions that directly impact the LGTBIQ+ community. Through these organizations, Colors Sitges Link is at the forefront of defending the community’s rights, both in Catalonia and at the national level.
A step forward in collaboration and change
With the recent addition of Montse Casaoliva to the Platform’s board, Colors Sitges Link strengthens its position as an active advocate for LGTBIQ+ rights in Catalonia. This new phase opens new opportunities for collaboration with other entities and continuing to promote inclusive policies that guarantee respect and equality for all people, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
The fight continues
Through our participation in the Platform and FELGTBI+, we will continue to influence political decisions that directly affect our community. From Colors Sitges Link, we are committed to continuing to work for a fairer environment where diversity and human rights are always respected.
