The 4th edition of the Endimaris Sitges Festival, held from November 8 to 17, 2024, closed its doors with undeniable success. This year, the event recorded a 28% increase in attendees compared to the previous edition, solidifying its position as an unmissable event for LGTBIQ+ cinema lovers. Over ten days, the festival offered a carefully curated selection of 38 productions, including 20 feature films and 18 short films, and stood out for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the historical memory of the community.
Tradition and Success with The Rocky Horror Picture Show
One of the most anticipated activities was the screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which has become a festival tradition. This year, the experience was energized by the Colors Sitges Link theatre group and the special participation of La Pelos, who managed to transform the evening into an interactive and vibrant show. The session once again became one of the highlights of the program, attracting both veteran fans of the classic and new generations.
Cineforums: The Festival’s Trademark
Another major success of this edition were the cineforums organized after the screenings. These sessions, a hallmark of the festival, allowed the audience to interact with directors, screenwriters, and actors, generating enriching debates on the stories and LGTBIQ+ perspectives reflected in the films. Among the titles that sparked the most discussion were Emilia Pérez and the documentary El muro rosa, both acclaimed by the audience and critics alike.
A Festival Driven by Volunteers
The 2024 edition would not have been possible without the involvement of 17 volunteers from Colors Sitges Link. Their tireless efforts, from logistical organization to supporting activities, were key to the success of Endimaris Sitges. Their dedication and commitment were widely recognized during the festival’s closing ceremony, highlighting the essential role of the community in creating inclusive events.
Notable Productions and Awards
The program included national and international productions of high quality. Among the most acclaimed films were the opening with Who Wants to Marry an Astronaut?, by director David Matamoros, and the closing with the praised Emilia Pérez by Jacques Audiard, starring Karla Sofía Gascón, who made history as the first trans actress to win an award at Cannes.
Additionally, the festival awarded the Endimaris Sitges 2024 Award to OT 2023 and Emilia Pérez, recognizing their impact in raising awareness of LGTBIQ+ realities in cinema and television.
An Inclusive and Committed Festival
For the first time, Endimaris Sitges offered accessible cinema with subtitles for people with hearing difficulties and audio descriptions for blind individuals, marking a milestone in its commitment to accessibility.
The success of Endimaris Sitges 2024 reaffirms its position as one of the most relevant festivals in promoting LGTBIQ+ cinema and as a meeting, celebration, and collective memory space for the audience and artists. The event already promises surprises for its next edition in 2025.
