Over the past few months and within the “No More Closets” project, aimed at the elderly LGTBIQ+ community, we have held several meetings with different institutions and entities that work with the elderly, in Sitges and other municipalities.

Several institutions have shown interest in the project, but in this case, we are pleased to announce that we have organized training sessions with the Vilanova i La Geltrú City Council, the Councilor for the Elderly, Julio Ruiz Melero, which we will hold this Friday, July 26th. Read the news here.

We share here the text and the link to the seminar, aimed at professionals who work with the elderly.

Seminar: LGTBI accompaniment and training addressed to professionals of institutions and services that care for the elderly

Our society is heterogeneous and diverse, so it is very important to guarantee LGBTI people the right to live their sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in full freedom throughout life and also in old age. From the City Council of Vilanova i la Geltrú, we have the I Local Plan for Sexual, Affective, and Gender Diversity (2019-2025). This plan aims to guarantee and promote transversal actions so that elderly people can live their old age with the highest possible well-being, and it works with the goal of reducing and eliminating LGTBI-phobic stereotypes and discriminations among the elderly, ensuring the promotion of relational spaces respectful of diversity.

To this end, we invite you to the free seminar, LGTBI accompaniment and training addressed to professionals of services and institutions that care for the elderly, which will take place on Friday, July 26th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Noble Hall of the Casa Olivella (Pl. de la Vila, 12), led by specialist Juan Carlos Uríszar, who holds a degree in psychology and a master’s in clinical and health psychology, and is a collaborator with the Colors Sitges Link entity.

This training is especially aimed at professionals working in the field of elderly care. The content of the training will allow understanding the needs of the elderly within the LGTBI community and provide tools to manage this diversity.

Prior registration is required at this LINK. Places are limited and will be allocated on a strict registration order basis. A certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees.
