Due to Coronavirus, the tradition of laying floral carpets in Sitges has had to be cancelled this year. However, this does not mean we cannot celebrate the tradition from our own homes.
This year Gay Sitges Link is asking all its members to make Rainbows from Paper Carnations and to hang them from their balconies. Photos of all the balconies will be collected and put into an online album to mark this extraordinary year.

It is easy to make the carnations. See the online video https://youtu.be/D3ZiM59vVuY
Paper can be bought in rolls from the Copisteria in Carrer de Cuba or probably more cheaply from your local Chinese bazar.

You will need some nylon thread or fishing line to make the flowers and thread them together. An alternative way of making the flowers is to use pipe cleaners and then each flower can be individually tied to the balcony, if you have a balcony with sufficient poles.

We suggest you make two flowers of each rainbow colour and then string the colours together starting with Red at the top, then orange, yellow, green, blue and lastly purple. Then hang each line from your balcony. These can be hung to form an arc like a rainbow or strung together in a line. Be as imaginative as you can. We will be giving an award for the best, most creative Rainbow.

Corpus Christi this year falls on Thursday 11th June so the carpets would have been laid down for Sunday 14th June. Depending on the weather you can put your rainbows on your balconies from 11th June but judging will be done on 14th June from the photos you send to us.

If you have any questions about making the paper flowers or how to hang them from your balcony email info@colorssitgeslink.org. If you want to join the Corpus Christi GSL WhatsApp group email adding your phone number.
