The festival closes with the presentation of the Endimaris Award

More than 700 spectators have attended the 13 screenings and 10 cine-forums of the 1st Mostra de Cinema LGBTQI+ Endimaris Sitges

A great success in a week marked by  low attendance at cinemas in Spain and at a difficult time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The creator and director of the series ‘Merlín’ and ‘Merlín Sapere Aude’, collected the first Endimaris Sitges Award in recognition to the contribution made by the two series to the visibility of the LGBTQI + community and the important values they transmit such as tolerance, respect and freedom.

Héctor Lozano stated that when he wrote ‘Merlin’ he wrote the series that he would have liked to see when he was younger and he is always moved when someone tells him that, thanks to Merlin, they have had the courage to come out to their family.

During the closing gala, the new work of the singer-songwriter Lydia Ruiz ‘Ay amiga’ was also presented with the screening of the video clip that features the American singer Stephanie Amaro.

The American film ‘Cicada’ by director Matt Fifer was the last film of the festival that featured the subsequent cine-fórum ‘The Battle Against Fear’ with the intervention of the psychologist Robert Monzonis and the artist Manuel Corrales.

During the week we had exceptional guests such as the actress Itziar Castro, La Prohibida, film directors such as Alba Muñoz, Marc Ferrer or Raúl Portero and many specialists who have participated in the presentations and cine-fòrums that want to make Endimaris Sitges into a reference in the world of LGBTQI + film festivals and exhibitions.

The festival also hosted major premieres such as the British production ‘Supernova’ by director Harry Macqueen and starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci, the Romanian production ‘Poppy Field’ winner of the Talents award in the latest edition of the D’A Film Festival. Also noteworthy is the session dedicated to Asian LGBTQI+ cinema with the collaboration of CINEASIA with the presentation of the film ‘Suk-Suk’. A Hong Kong production that shows the love story between two 70-year-old parents who meet and decide to stop hiding their sexual identity and start a new life together.

Endimaris Sitges also had room for two musicals recorded in London’s West End

The production of ‘Kinky Boots’ from the Adelphi Theatre with music by Cindi Lauper and ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ recorded at the Apollo Theatre in the British capital. Roland Emmerich’s ‘Stonewall’, ‘Lola Vers La Mer’ by Belgian director Laurent Micheli, ‘Now you are a Woman’, the award-winning Brazilian production ‘Tinta Bruta’ and the Spanish ‘Grímsey’ were other productions that were seen on the screen of the Cine Prado over the those days.

‘Stonewall’ by Roland Emmerich, ‘Lola Vers La Mer’ by Belgian director Laurent Micheli, ‘Now you are a Woman’, the award-winning Brazilian production ‘Tinta Bruta’ and the Spanish ‘Grímsey’ are other productions that could be seen at the screen of the Prado Cinema these days.

The Mostra de Cinema LGTBIQ+ Endimaris Sitges, organized by Cineclub Sitges and Colors Sitges Link, has had the support of the Ajuntament de Sitges, Sitges Anytime, Casino Prado Suburense and the collaboration of Queenz, Geido Cosmètics, Cavas Llopart and the Vinoteca Perbacco. It also has other collaborators such as the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantastic de Catalunya, CineAsia, D’A Film Festival, LesGaiCineMad, Zinentiendo, Museus de Sitges, La Cañateca Sitges, and the Double A Company of the IAB.
