Today, the first of May, is a very special day, in the current circumstances. We celebrate Labor Day. It is a very significant day in Sitges, in the collective struggle, which is remembered on the plaque and the name of the street of May 1st 1838 (Carrer del primer de maig de 1838, the most popular street in Sitges).
From the LGTBI Gay Sitges Link association we want to call for unity, for solidarity with workers, together with all the associations, employers and public administrations that at the moment see an uncertain future.
It is in these crisis situations when it is necessary to fight together so that no person from the LGTBI community is left behind or suffers from employment or economic discrimination. Today is May Day, the international day for civil rights.
Now more than ever, we need to sit down and talk. Forget the skills or misunderstandings and act as one to be able to face our future together.
Sitges has on other occasions experienced disasters and mishaps in its own skin, perhaps never like today. We remember the AIDS pandemic that caused irreparable damage and loss, but today we need a totally positive attitude, and a determination to get out and not leave anyone in the lurch.
Let us be honest and generous, we offer our hands outstretched to a common dialogue and to the participation of all parties involved in this process of radical change that COVID 19 has brought us.
We seize the moment to transform evil into good. We must keep alert to the changes the planet is demanding.
We welcome your support and solidarity and as life begins to return to normal to support local businesses particularly those who have supported the LGBT community over many years – including our discount programme members.
Happy 1st May!
