• A great success of attendance (470 visitors) in record time (9 days) for an exhibition that will be remembered for its originality and participation.

Last June, from Friday 4 to Sunday 13, we were able to enjoy at the Estudi VIDAL Art Gallery (Carrer d’en Bosc, 6, 08870 Sitges, Barcelona) one of the most artistic initiatives of our association: Cuerpos Queer / Mentes Diversas (Queer Bodies / Diverse Minds). It was an exhibition of contemporary art, with local artists and friends of the association, who showed in the exhibited pieces their vision of the Queer fact, of what it means for them to follow the precepts of this concept.

Momentos de la exposición Cuerpos Queer / Mentes Diversas

The artists invited to participate in “Cuerpos Queer / Mentes Diversas” were:  visual artists Manuel Corrales, Manuel Riccardi, Jody B. Little (painters), Jaume Aldabó (artist’s book), HeretikRadical (digital collage), Isidre Roset (engraving), Tony Saldaña (comic), Eloi Biosca (sculptor), and the visual artists Liliane Felix, Thomas Vilhelm (photography), Martin Lewton, Yoky Yu (performance), Roldy i Iván El Santo (multimedia). It is a very heterogeneous group of artists with a common backdrop: the Queer perspective in art.

With the Queer Manifesto, launched by the activist movement ACT UP at Gay Pride in New York in 1990, as a backdrop, the exhibition’s curators, Manuel Corrales and Manuel Riccardi, created a clear and very creative itinerary. From the moment you started the tour of the exhibition you could clearly see the maxims referred to by the Queer revolution, more in vogue today than ever before in the history of the LGBTQI + movement.

The association’s culture group, with Prado G. Velázquez at the head and “Los Manus” as an inseparable tandem, did a commendable job to which were added the talents of the incombustible Martin Lewton and the very appreciable help of Jaume Aldabó and Jose Roldán, artists who all collaborated in the exhibition. Added to this was the talented graphic designer Adam Ballerini, who did an impeccable job with the design of the exhibition’s poster and image, which later served as inspiration for the Mostra de Cinema LGTBIQ+ Endimaris Sitges.

Around the exhibition, various satellite activities took place such as readings of trans and queer poetry by trans poet Bruno Cimiani and the interpreter Pat (LSC), the performances of Martin Lewton and Yoky Yu, the projection of the video mapping “Humanoa” by Iván El Santo and Roldy, and the presentations of the books «Insumisas» by Laura Manzanera, and «Maternidades Cuir» by Eva Abril and Gracia Trujillo, with the assistance of the authors to two Corpus Queer Literary Vermouths. In addition, there were two Special Sitges Queer Routes directed and presented by our brilliant art historian Isidre Roset, who put the icing of the cake to an artistic initiative that has meant a before and after in Colors Sitges Link’s artistic contribution to the Sitges exhibition network.

The photographic report of ‘Cuerpos Queer / Mentes Diversas’  was the work of the documentary photographer Liliane Felix.
