The Endimaris Sitges LGBTIQ + Film Festival starts with the collaboration between the Cineclub Sitges and Colors Sitges Link associations to give visibility to the reality of the LGBTIQ+ community. It also wants to become a space for an open debate through the situations that arise from the films that are screened.
Sitges is a reference town for the LGBTIQ+ community and is also a world cinema reference, as it hosts the most important fantasy film genre festival in the world and has two movie thatres with more than 100 years of history and also two of the oldest in Spain.
Why Endimaris?
“Endimari” is a Catalan expression, originally from the garraf territory, that means: “Person or thing that is useless or that hinders; Junk, useless utensil ”. This expression perfectly describes how society in general has treated LGBTIQ + people throughout history.
Following the virtue of the queer community to turn around concepts originally used against it in a pejorative way, it is more than ideal to use the word “endimaris” in this regard.
Opening and closing
The show will begin on June 24 and will end on July 1.
In total, thirteen films and documentaries that deal with different topics that affect the LGTBIQ + community, from corrective rapes of lesbians in Kenya, through fears of sexually transmitted diseases, problems of acceptance of sexual orientation, to the elderly in the LGTBIQ + collective.
Being the Garraf’s first LGTBIQ + film festival, which was born with the hope and objective of growing and becoming a benchmark, both the opening and closing will be special and there will be some surprises.
Post-screening
After each screening, we will organize a postscreening in which we will have exceptional guests, directors, producers of the films, as well as specialists in the proposed topics.
