On Friday, May 17th, we invite you to the Plaça de l’Ajuntament de Sitges to commemorate the International Day Against LGBTIQ+phobia. Starting at 6:00 PM, we will gather to show our commitment to the fight against all forms of hatred and discrimination that affect the LGBTIQ+ community. Around 6:30 PM, we will start a march toward the “Sitges against LGBTphobia” sculpture (Pink Triangle) on Passeig Marítim.
This event is more necessary than ever. In 2023, assaults and hate crimes against LGBTIQ+ people have increased, especially against trans people and lesbians. Moreover, we have seen the rise of political parties that reject our basic rights. These times remind us that we cannot lower our guard and that our rights are still fragile. We need to show solidarity and fight together to eradicate LGBTIQ+phobia.
We want everyone to join this march: organizations from Sitges, the general public, and anyone who wants to show support for diversity and challenge intolerance. During the event, we will distribute informational material, flowers, candles, and paper for you to write your messages of support. There will also be performances by artists, members of Colors Sitges Link, and representatives from the local government.
At 7:00 PM, Prado García, our president, will welcome representatives from the local government to address the audience. Then, we will read the manifesto written by the LGBTIQ+ organizations in the Garraf district, a text against LGBTIQ+phobia in Catalan, Spanish, and English to emphasize the linguistic diversity of our community.
