Discover why this date is so special and what it means for the world.

The United Nations General Assembly established December 5 as the day to pay tribute to the more than 840 million people who dedicate their time to collaborate and make a difference in society. Since 1985, governments and civil organizations worldwide join in this global commemoration.

The main goal of this day is to inspire more people to offer their services as volunteers, whether in their home countries or abroad. This year’s slogan is to recognize the power of collective action, emphasizing that if we all unite in volunteering, we can make the world a better place.

The UN highlights the essential role of volunteers in situations of crisis and adversity, often being the first to offer help. In 2022, the focus of the day was on solidarity and the power of collective human quality to drive positive change through volunteering.

This year, the main slogan is to recognize the power of collective action.

The organization also calls for collaboration and volunteering to address inequalities in the world, working together to find common solutions. The idea is to build a future with food and education for all, a healthy environment, and inclusive and peaceful societies.

Additionally, on this day, the Online Volunteering Awards are presented, an initiative of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program. Since 2006, organizations working for peace and development are recognized, highlighting their work and best practices. Nominees, whether teams or individuals, are evaluated by an international jury.

Collaborate, be a volunteer, and join the collective action for a better world! At Colors Sitges Link, we need your collaboration.
