Manifesto of the Generalitat, endorsed by Colors Sitges Link.

December 1st, World AIDS Day, is an opportunity to remember the HIV pandemic and show our support to all those affected.

Over the years, scientific advancements and the implementation of biomedical, structural, and behavioral prevention strategies have contributed to a reduction in the number of new HIV infections. The improvement in treatments has made this infection a chronic condition, and if the virus becomes undetectable, it is not transmissible, posing new challenges that require new responses and the renewal of existing ones.

Currently, people with HIV live as many years as those without it but have specific medical and social needs that are exacerbated by a latent stigma and discrimination in society, which affect their well-being and can hinder the adoption of preventive measures.

It is up to all of us to create an environment where we can enjoy full health. The Social Pact against discrimination and stigma of people with HIV in Catalonia is the instrument that should enable us to effectively fulfill the social commitment to respect diversity, comprehensive education, and the inclusion of all individuals in a society free of prejudices.

Aware of the challenges we still face and the importance of joint efforts to provide solutions, Catalonia implements the Action Plan against HIV and other STIs 2021-2030, a roadmap led by the Deputy General Directorate of Addictions, HIV, STIs, and Viral Hepatitis, which incorporates proposals from community entities, such as Colors Sitges Link, professionals, citizens, and Catalan administrations to reduce the number of infections, ensure comprehensive quality care, and create a social environment free of serophobia, with a transversal gender perspective.

We know where we want to go, and we have the tools to do so. On this World AIDS Day, we reinforce our commitment so that, as the WHO establishes, it is possible to eliminate HIV as a threat to public health by 2030.

For this reason, we propose a series of events for December 1st, World AIDS Day.

The AIDS Memorial Tapestry originated in 1987 in the United States with the aim of making visible the loss of lives hidden behind the statistics of this disease. It arrived in Spain in 1993, promoted by the Names Project, a non-governmental organization on HIV.

Cinema at El Prado: NO FEAR OF HIV

Screening of the film NO FEAR OF HIV by David Artega Valledor.

It is a documentary that sheds light on the evolution of the HIV epidemic from its beginnings in the 1980s to the present. The narrative is built through medical and personal perspectives of those directly affected by the disease. Facing the lack of information and persistent ignorance, the film reveals how people with HIV continue to be victims of discrimination and violations of their fundamental rights.
